Thanks Dick and George for your kind words.

I checked a list of quotes of stocks I follow on Dec. 31, and found that many of the broken stocks I followed in 1997 closed the year below 5. I can't say that I had the patience to stay the course in being personally short with all of them until the year end, and some of them surprised me with how far they fell (RACE and ISCO to name two). KKRO's demise doesn't really surprise me, but that was one that I couldn't borrow shares for.

Looking back, late summer was a dreadful time for shortsellers. I remember lots of frustration shown in online forums. But late in the year, hedging a portfolio proved to be quite useful.
