" Teledesic doesn't have to communicate with each mobile phone user. There are lots of wireless carriers who would love to use a less expensive wireless backbone with T1 capacity. These carriers would communicate between cell sites using Teledesic. Wireless communication within the cells would occur as usual.

If Teledesic works, many things will change."

Thomas, I'm having trouble with your comments, maybe because I don't know what you're talking about. Educate me. It's my understanding (from Akerson himself), that the entire LEOS concept will be extremely expensive and it's unclear whether LEOS have ANY application to NXTL. Mind you, it's a cost issue. If so, how would that be competitive for regional wireless carriers? IOW can two companies make money with the LEOS system for U.S. applications?
