Thanks for posting that. I've some ex students who were illegal, some of them became citizens by joining the military (a path to citizenship). Some are still illegal and some have gone back to Mexico. Some were the children of illegals - some lost one or both of their parents because of that- and grew up in single family homes or with relatives.

I would never say we should not control our borders- but we need to do a much more humane job than we are doing now. If employers were punished, illegals could not work here. There would be no jobs. People who live here, and have citizenship here and have a lot to lose (like money)- they are easily punished. We should structure our system that way. And we should probably help Mexico become more functional- so its citizens stay there.

Not sure Americans will like the cost of this, though, since our citizens are already poor, and getting poorer. The prices for their produce and restaurant meals and gardeners and tradesmen and many other things have been kept down by illegals in the market. People who wanted laborers could go down and pick some up on a side street near Home Depot- everything will cost more without illegals around- and I'm not sure Americans have the money to pay more. That will be interesting. Poor and lower middle Americans are going to have benefits taken away by this administration at the same time illegal workers are forced out of the labor market. I doubt prices will rise for the lowest work- maybe short term, maybe a little- until farmers automate. Not sure what restaurants do- their margins are small. Maybe they just go out of business.
