If that deist is who I think it was, he actually asked me once, "Why would anyone be good and not murder people if they didn't believe in a higher power?" I was so shocked by the naivete and weirdness of that question, I've remembered it for years (along with the idea that life would be a giant sucking void without a God- another of his ideas.)

So he did credit his good behavior to a deity- at least inferentially, by suggesting people without one wouldn't have good behavior.
