Exit polls on election night reflect exactly what you said -- people had no idea what she really stood for. She was just trying to wriggle through to get elected, in the old politician way. Trump got there in the new way, by saying everything negative about his was a damn lie and every other politician was a swamp rat and pandering to people's fears. And he listened (pretended more likely) to people who hadn't been listened to in decades by the Dems. Nor the GOP -- still not the GOP actually, which is the joke on them. Maybe something new will emerge -- so far, there is no self-examination in either the GOP, which doesn't care because they think they can get the lion's share of the pie for now -- nor in the Dem camp, which I guess thinks they'll be a backlash and the usual suspects can get back in power to serve their masters, the elite. Which is also the GOP masters. Trump is just the carnival side show. He should sell tickets, it's like a revival where people will pay good money to hear his alternate reality.
