paul, i read what you said and went back and read the article regarding the unsold processors and also the info from post #44040 from jules v regarding increased capital spending and finally to intel's site to see comments from q3 report.
here is what concerns me.
1. per intel...asia pacific accounts for 21% revenues and japan 11% from 3q report...1/3 of all revenues from a present dead market.
2. per intel q4 will have 10 15% higher costs for r & d and mg & a
3. per intel q3 lower earnings had to due with weaker than expected flash memory market. is it any better in q4?
4. from jules v. post....increased capital spending for 98 from 4.5bil to
5.4.....at 4.5billion its at about 20% of revenues which puts 97 revenues at 225billion...to stay at the same 20% level they would need to have 98 revenues of about 270billion...50billion more. i say doubtful...what is your opinion.
5. 3mil unsold processors due to "massave cancellations." you state they need large amount of cpu on hand to ship at moments notice. IMO i do not see this as a problem in the near future.
paul, i spent xmas in hawaii, a haven for the aisan countries at this time of year....they were not there in the same numbers and those that were were not spending the same way...i spoke to a gentleman from singapore who is in the chemical sales field and he said in nov. orders
down 50%, dec-none....and he was watching his own spending while on holidays...granted different field, but the money ain't there to spend.
i love intel, but i just donot see the positive at least in next 2 quarters.
regards,
john
