2/24/2017 Contest update I don’t go to the movies much, but is there any doubt that Sunday night the Oscar for “Best Performance in a Leading Role” will go to that aging star, Dow Jones. Unfortunately, however, the star’s supporting performers have been forgetting their lines with this especially true for biotechs. Sad. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was hit hard by the -19% slide of MNTA (held in 11 Contest portfolios) and is now just up 6.23% YTD (vs. up 12.60% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 9.43% YTD (vs. up 11.10 YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 13.72% YTD (vs. up 17.39% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 8.59% YTD (vs. up 8.46% YTD a week ago). Although down a bit for the week, BIOADD’s portfolio remained in the Contest lead with a formidable 43.01% YTD gain. YVR’s portfolio, up 28.34% YTD, and JBOG’s portfolio, up 23.35% YTD, held on to second and third place. At Friday's close, 41 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 19 beating the NBI and 11 beating the SPSIBI. The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 9.06% and a median YTD gain of 4.26%, with 113 of the 195 picks up for the year. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.) Have a safe and relaxing Academy Awards weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
