| | | Consolidation would be a big part of it. I've been a fan of external usb drives since they were still usb 2.0, and might own 18tb of still working external, mostly usb 3.0, drives if they were all added up, with another 8tb nib as backups on hand.
The two latest are a 3tb western digital my passport ultra which easily fits in pocket and is powered through usb cable alone, a real pleasure to travel with and use on the go. And a 5tb seagate backup plus+ that is larger and powered through ac adapter. I don't need the big internal drive but have space for several so probably best to wait for the right deal to come along and am aware of some people that take apart large external usb 3.0 drives to shove inside a box but most of those are 5400rpm, ideally I'd wait for a deal on 7200rpm and the 20% bump in performance. ;-)
If I haven't already mentioned, the three main drive bays on the z420 are very easy to work and were designed with quick swapping in mind. The frame where the drive is mounted fits into a rail slot that slides in and snaps and pulls out holding on the green plastic green tabs. Slide in and out, attach the sata and power cable and good to go.
p.s. I forgot to add I'm also a fan of usb 3.0 thumb drives, similar history to external usb hdd. Biggest thumb now is a few 256gb usb 3.0, some 128gb and 64gb but already gave some of those away. |
