What do you all think.....do you think guys like Paul Ryan, and Mitch McConnell live in protective estates when they are not in Washington???

My current read of these two is to see them with different motives. Ryan is a deeply ideological thinker, not a deep one, just strongly committed to Ayn Rand's embodiment of unvarnished capitalism. That's the way to the greater good so far as he is concerned. Social security, then, from that point of view is an impediment because it takes money individuals earn from their work, gives it to the government which becomes a promissory note to be returned with investment increments at retirement. That hampers the individual's "freedom" to invest on their own and be subject to the risks involved (one of the evils of social security in this frame is that it lulls recipients into the moral hazards associated with lack of perception of risk).

That commit, in my view, then gets converted into a politics which can't easily show itself since it runs counter to the structural interests of very large chunks of the American population.

So I see him as simply a politician with different views than my own who needs to be defeated in elections.

McConnell doesn't strike me as much of an ideological. He's a long time establishment Republican, just as comfortable with Bob Dole's version of political positions as with the ones he now embodies, simply because that's the way you get into power and manage to stay here.
