scba,

Let me clarify that phrase in the context in which it was said. Jenkins was speaking to the fact of a previous press release in which, I believe, four contracting companies were named. You have to remember that the companies who requested their names not be in the press release were also listening to that conference call, or at least Jenkins had to assume they were listening. I interpreted the phrase, "I guess", to simply be a courtesy to those companies who did not want their names released. He said that to indicate that he would not presume to speak for them as to why they wished to remain anonymous.

Informational speaking in the public world is a dangerous beast. There are companies that train corporate officers to speak in a way that appears informative but cannot later be analysed to imply more than was being said.

As I have said before, Y2K is not a new product or service that a company is investing in. It is like paying a tax, just money gone for the privilege of staying in business. Every time the shareholders of a Y2K company rejoice over the millions in a contract, somewhere there is an analyst subtracting those same millions from the bottom line of the announced client. I see little to gain for the client from announcing Y2K contracts.
