When I avoided my "first place" TGT, I put the $$ in second place VFC, it seemed more stable than straight retail to me. Well, I held it for a few months and then got antsy. Admittedly, I was looking to harvest some capital losses, so I sold it for a couple dollar loss, anticipating I would buy it back at a cheaper price after 31 days. Well, in that time I felt my understanding of the retail environment deteriorated further, so I have not bought VFC back--and the iWife is really opposed.
Just don't get retail well enough, anymore. I still think I like VFC ok. One thing that concerns me is that almost all write-ups of VFC reference its "iconic" brands. While I buy at least three of their brands, I know their names, but certainly do not consider them "iconic." Van's, maybe, but not most (or any) of the rest. Well, that's the reason for my hesitation in jumping back into VFC. I don't think they are doing that poorly, I am just concerned that their "everyday" brands don't have enough cache to do real well against Amazon. On a personal note, I buy all my shoes from Amazon, trying on several sizes. Jeans, I still get (VFC Wranglers) at the local discount store, so I can get the fit I want and do not ever have to return. In time, I might change that approach. |
