Leonardo Fibonacci was a thirteenth-century Italian mathematician who discovered the series in which each succeeding number is the sum of the two proceeding numbers: 1-1-2-3-5-8-13-21-33-54...)

The ratio of each number to the next is approximately 61.8 percent (and conversely 38.2 going the other way). These ratio's, along with %50 can be significant support/resistance points during retracements.
