I guess you really don't get how this works.

A recusal is what a professional does when their involvement in a particular work product leaves them with something that might, to someone, give an appearance of impropriety. That is the standard. It has absolutely nothing to do with guilt or innocence, and implies no conflict. But it removes the appearance of conflict.

He handled it exactly as he should have, with an extreme of professional caution.

You're not familiar with recusal, I suspect, because Democrats never met a conflict of interests they didn't want to keep.
