Tesla is a great example: Someone saw the opportunity, jumped on it, and has created a new industry from it. Of course, the government should not be subsidizing it as is evidenced by the backlog.

Tesla could not survive without subsidies and has only been extending the inevitable using sly tactics. The $1000 deposit for the upcoming car was ingenious as it gave them $400M more cash to blow through. They were also able to eke out a bit more time by merging with Solar City but both will be down the drain shortly.
