Brave California Man Douses Arsonist With Bullets

Posted at 10:47 am on March 6, 2017 by Beth Baumann

Last week, 48-year-old Maurilio Miranda attempted to light a Fresno, California home on fire.

What he didn’t expect, however, was for the homeowner to fire up his gun.

When police arrived on scene shortly after 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, Miranda was taken into custody on charges of attempted arson, assault with a deadly weapon and trespassing.

According to police, this was not the first time Miranda had an incident at this particular residence. In fact, he was arrested on February 8th on felony vandalism charges after he broke 20 windows, causing $4,800 in damage. The second incident occurred two days later, on February 10th, when Miranda made his first attempt at burning the house down.

After the two incidents, the homeowner installed a security system and purchased a firearm for protection. The family spotted Miranda outside, pouring gasoline out of a soda bottle along the perimeter of the home. That’s when the homeowner grabbed his gun and came outside. Miranda even attempted to set the homeowner on fire by flicking gasoline and a lighter at the man. That’s when the homeowner shot a warning shot into the ground.

But that didn’t stop Miranda, who picked up a board and raised it, as if he were going to strike the homeowner. At that point, the homeowner fired the second warning shot into the ground and gave Miranda a final warning, saying he would shoot him if need be. Miranda dropped the board and the homeowner held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
