A solid state electrolyte prevents the creation or lithium or magnesium dendrites forming during a recharge, which is what caused the short in the Samsung batteries.

With a solid state electrolyte there's no need for a separator and the sizing flaw in the battery case would not have mattered. But there are still development problems to solve with a solid electrolyte, as with all technologies.

And this solid electrolyte technology is also dependent upon carbon nanotube parts which has even smaller tolerances.
