HumaScan Launches BreastAlert(TM) Differential Temperature
Sensor, Product Available in Physician Offices Nationwide

CRANFORD, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- HumaScan Inc. (Nasdaq: HMSC - news) announced today that on
December 29, 1997 the Company commenced shipments of its BreastAlert(TM) Differential Temperature Sensor,
a non-invasive, adjunctive screening device which assists in the early detection of breast disease. The shipments
were made to the distribution facilities of Physician Sales & Service Inc. (Nasdaq: PSSI - news), the exclusive
national distributor of BreastAlert. The product will be available in all 50 states.

HumaScan's eleven regional managers are spearheading the product rollout, working with PSS's 750 sales
representatives nationally. Together they are concentrating their sales efforts on gynecologists and primary care
physicians, who treat the majority of women with breast disease.

Donald Brounstein, President and Chief Executive Officer commented, ''We are extremely pleased with the
progress we have made over the last six months, leading up to the shipments of BreastAlert in December. Early
reports indicate that the response by gynecologists and family practitioners is positive. Physicians say they are
excited to be able to provide women with a safe, low-cost, easy-to-use product that aids in the early detection and
monitoring of breast disease.''

Richard Luciani, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., a gynecologist and member of HumaScan's Scientific Advisory Committee
commented, ''BreastAlert may be particularly useful for younger women under age 50, who are more likely to
have aggressive cancers, where tumor doubling times can be as short as 80 days. These women may have denser
breast tissue, making tumors more difficult to detect by palpation during the clinical breast exam.''

Dr. Luciani added, ''The increase in metabolic activity caused by early-stage breast disease generates heat that
can be measured at the surface by BreastAlert. Every woman should understand the early detection options now
available to her. The sooner she knows, the better her chances of survival.''

HumaScan will also sponsor a national breast health program for consumers, beginning in March 1998. Actress Jill
Eikenberry, Golden Globe award winner for the dramatic series L.A. Law, and also a breast cancer survivor will
be featured in this campaign. Together with her husband, actor Michael Tucker, Ms. Eikenberry will participate in
presentations that underscore the benefits of breast self-examination and the early detection of breast disease.
Advertising for BreastAlert will appear in major professional journals as well as selected consumer health
publications throughout 1998.

The BreastAlert DTS is a non-invasive, adjunctive screening device for the early detection of breast disease to be
used by primary care physicians, gynecologists and other medical specialists. It is used at the time of clinical breast
examination to detect temperature differences between the breasts which may indicate the presence of breast
disease, including breast cancer.

This release contains forward-looking information, including statements regarding the positive impact that this
adjunctive product may have in assisting physicians in the early detection of breast disease in women. Additional
information on factors that could potentially affect the Company's financial results may be found in the Company's
filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
