XL Computing Delivers TEMPEST Laptops to Boeing for C-32A Program
MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Cycomm International Inc. (AMEX: CYI) today announced that its subsidiary, XL Computing, has completed delivery of TEMPEST and commercial laptops to Boeing for the C-32A program. The C-32A is a Boeing 757-200 aircraft modified to support the Special Airlift Mission Aircraft requirements of the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews Air Force Base, MD. The C-32A will replace the aging VC-137 aircraft which have been in service since 1959.
XL Computing's 405LT is the only laptop endorsed by the National Security Agency as meeting the Level I requirements of NSTISSAM TEMPEST 1/92 available in the market today. In addition to meeting NSA TEMPEST requirements, the laptop had to pass a Boeing and FAA Conformity Audit. The Conformity Audit required a detailed comparison of the units to the design and as-built documentation.
"XLC is an ISO-9001 certified company so we had most of the documentation required by Boeing" said Kent Bartlett, XL Computing's Vice President for Business/Product Development. "The Boeing Quality Inspectors were great to work with and trained our people on the additional documentation needed by Boeing and the FAA. We now have the procedures in place to meet Boeing's requirements for additional equipment."
The 405LT is undergoing flight certification testing at a Boeing facility in Wichita. This testing will include flammability and crash safety testing. Once completed, the 405LT will get an Air Worthiness Certificate which allows it to be used on commercial and military aircraft.
"Upgrading from 1950's to 1990's aircraft requires a similar leap in computers. The 405LT meets the computing needs of Special Airlift Mission Aircraft with minimal expense to the government as all of the necessary documentation is now in place." explained Mr. Bartlett. The 405LT is also available on a GSA schedule for ease of procurement.
