Agree. The appliances perform better than the "smart" tvs. They are purpose built and very easy to replace with updated HW as tech evolves every few years.
Not that updating is required, i just like bells and whistles.


Yes, thanks - that is what I had in mind, although it's not just new bells and whistles - when there is a problem with the "smart" part that upgrading firmware doesn't fix, then it is wasteful to have to replace the entire TV.
