You might not like WikiLeaks or our great and estimable hero Edward Snowden, but they provide you with information not otherwise available. That information, although not approved by your USA government 'disbanded' Disinformation Services, will give you a broader perspective than your narrow view.
Information is not binary = "rather than". "As well as Putin's news outlets" is silly. Information is neutral and available from billions of sources who are not the CIA, Disinformation Branch, crooked politicians who lie [as amusingly demonstrated by RT today - yet again].

His expanded invasion of Syria is as per his explanations that he will NOT give advance warning to ISIS or anyone else as surprise is a useful approach to such things.
Hopefully he'll remain focused on ISIS and similar jihadists rather than use it as a pretext for conquest of Syria preparatory for an attack on Iran. But given the danger of Iran, and their direct threats to conduct nuclear explosion mass murder with two nukes on Israel, it's understandable that Big Don would prepare to stop Iran and do that by reducing their ability to use Syria and Lebanon as stepping stones to conquering Israel.
History has not finished but continues apace, with 7 billion people in the maelstrom. It's strange to think that only 10,000 years ago there were just a few million people. Only 2000 years ago there were only 200 million. Only 100 years ago there were some 1 billion living lives of largely agricultural subsistence with a lot of hunter/gathering. Now, it's an integrated globalized swarming horde of 7 billion huddled in huge cities totally dependent on global supply systems, accelerating into the future with A380s, mobile Cyberspace, genetic engineering, a lingua franca and millions of people working flat out at the scientific and technological limits with no end in sight.
Peak People should [hopefully] be 2037 by choice of women limiting family size. It could be sooner due to global disruption [financial, social ideology, civil wars], humanized avian flu, 2020 reglaciation, asteroid impact, nuclear war - hopefully not, but fearfully possible and given human history, quite likely].
