Which brings us to Cyberwar.

First split into 2
  • the 'information gathering' to use against your enemies
  • Hacking into gadgets have been hot in the news
  • the information to influence public opinion.
  • Use your media muscle to make the public believe your causes

'information gathering'
This has been going way back before technology enabled information gathering in a bigger scale because the costs of acquiring, storing and processing information have gone down.
For instance I would bug every single device used for video conference and conference calls as these are used by big business on a daily basis.

the information to influence public opinion
Is the George Orwell '1984' stuff. Just make people believe what you want them to believe.

Recognizing the power of the media to make or break a president:(The Mexican) Congress enacted a major reform aimed at preventing the interference of telecom companies in the electoral process, but otherwise left the telecom market untouched. The message sent to the telecommunications industry was clear: keep out of the political process and you can have your economic windfalls.
