Good question, where do I get my health insurance. When I was young, I watched all of my relatives who were farmers have to sell off their land to pay for their medical bills when they got old.

So when I got to Alaska and started to work, I took jobs with the state that paid much less than I could've made in the private sector. But what I got out of it was a really good health insurance policy that when I retired will continue until I die.

So I forwent higher wages when I was young just to get that health insurance. And then when I turned 65, I got Medicare. Between the two of them I am fully covered for the rest of my life. I pay four dollars for all of my prescriptions and that is all the money I pay out.

Almost everyone I know has been saved one way or another by Medicare i.e. new knees, hip replacements, etc. Old people know the importance of Medicare and we need to keep it just the way it is.

Just because some young person doesn't want health insurance, society has to step up to the plate and say look that is stupid. You can get in a bad accident, or a life-threatening illness at any time in your life.

If you don't have health insurance, who pays to take care of you? Society pays. So it's obviously much better for society to mandate that everybody have some health insurance so that the entire society can have health insurance and the person has to take some responsibility for it..

There is not a single place on earth where private insurance works to provide health insurance for everybody. Not one single place. For the simple reason, it does not work, because insurance companies do not want to ensure sick people.

So the sicker you are or lean towards that the higher your premiums will be until they are prohibitively expensive and then you die or have society pay for it. . And insurance companies are ruthless, because they don't have the moral commitment that societies programs have like Medicare and Medicaid.
