Jim, there was a piece in my local paper a few days ago about South Koreans selling their gold. They are purported to have $20 billion worth of gold in private hands. There was a photo of Samsung employees lining up to turn in their gold rings and medals to help defer the crisis. That Confucian ethic is really strong.

With oil, gold, timber, and fish prices all falling, it looks like our resource-based Alaskan economy will really be hit hard. These commodities normally do not all tank at the same time.
