>> Canadians with cystic fibrosis live 10 years longer than their US counterparts, and health insurance is likely a big reason, new research suggests. The death rate in Canada was 44% lower than among Americans on Medicare and Medicaid, and 77% lower than Americans with no insurance,

It is an interesting question but the bigger question is why the drug that is causing people to live longer, TOBI (Tobramycin Inhalation Solution USP), was developed in the United States by a Seattle company working with the academic researchers? Why was it not taken to Canada to develop instead of being developed out of Seattle?

And why are Medicare and Medicaid not able to match the death rate with Canadians? (Your quote unfortunately doesn't tell us what the numbers are vs. Blue Cross and Blue Shield or even UHC).
