Canada Goose Holdings (GOOS-T) IPO a big honkin' success

Debut Canada Goose Holdings the retailer had priced the 20 million shares that were sold in its initial public offering at $17 apiece, above its expected $14 to $16 range. The order book for the IPO was more than 20 times oversubscribed.

The Toronto-based company has sold investors in Canada, the U.S. and across Europe on its growth prospects by promising to push into new countries and expand its product offering beyond upscale winter coats.

Now comes the hard part: Canada Goose will have to make good on its pledge every quarter and do so without watering down a reputation that took 60 years to foster and nurture. The pressure to expand faster to generate handsome returns for impatient shareholders has tested the authenticity of many luxury retailers over the years. Investors will be watching for whether Canada Goose will be able to produce high-quality apparel that sells for spring and fall, as well as branch out to other possible product lines, such as footwear, travel gear and bedding.
