When you run a program to alter data, you don't have data anymore. You have a model.
A model is the result of data already taken. The model is then written to try and duplicate or replicate actual data. If it doesn't the model is tweaked to get a result closer to actual data....the factors that have to be tweaked or added often give insight into what is going on with the actual data. You understand that models are used to speed up the process of gathering data and produce results that are near impossible to obtain by simply gathering data...

Getting more reliable models of weather requires evermore powerful supercomputers since the weather systems are so complex....... Weather forecasting has come a very long way in the last 20 years or so and we now have fairly reliable 2 week forecasts. We started to get warnings about the blizzard we just had about 2 weeks ago....and as it approached they nailed it almost to the minute....
