Seems to me that Indians as a nation are a quite smart bunch, they do not believe in paper money that the authorities can print with abandon, they do not believe in agricultural land as their water resources are limited and even in a deficit, so the only store of value that would be difficult to evaluate or to confiscate is gold jewelry, which they enjoy wearing and looking at the work of art.

All in all quite smart.
