I agree. I do think that we should watch carefully what happens with ISDN vs analog modem improvement (56kit, etc) vs xDSL deployment. If analog modems are able to crank up to 56kbit soon (as is being rumored), ISDN could take a bit hit. Because the difference in bw would be marginal (56 vs 64 assuming just one B channel), modems could tide the industry for a few years until Xdsl became more widespread, and they would be a lot cheaper for ISPs to implement - just like 28.8, cheap modems on either side, no need to upgrade the CO infrastructure to ISDN.

The key issue is time. There's a window of opportunity for 56kbit modems to attack ISDN; if they take too long then ISDN ubiquity and cost-curve learning will beat analog modems back.
