I have come to the conclusion that quality healthcare at a reasonable price for everyone can never come from market solutions because markets are there to maximize profits.
I think markets are a big part of the solution.. when they are PERMITTED to work competitively.

Take house calls from Physician Assistants.. They charge less.. can care for minor issues/injuries that could keep people out of emergency rooms.. They can refer patients to GPs or Specialists..

In my area of S. Idaho, we have, essentially, one major medical provider.. St. Lukes. In the larger "cities" here, like Boise, they have a few other hospitals.. But St. Lukes is the biggest, nearly monopolist, provider.

So they can get away with charging huge fees and prices for medicines (when in the hospital and not able to access local discount pharmacies).

Essentially, I see the pharma and hospital systems as parts of a crony capitalist system.. they rely upon excessive regulations and legislative protections that drive up the cost.
