Why wasn't that done in the first place for those who couldn't afford buying it for themselves instead of creating some asinine mammoth like obamacare which was a scam, and that way all those who wanted to keep their existing plans and doctors would have been able to do that...

The Dems wanted a single payer system. The Republicans would not go for it so, like now, healthcare was compromised down to an unworkable plan called Obamacare. The new unworkable plan is Trumpcare.

If we just let the health insurance system collapse, first off, millions of people would suffer real pain and hardships, including MY family. Second, it would absolutely guarantee a full Dem takeover of House and Senate next election and Trump as a one term president.

I just don't understand why 30 other developed countries, ALL of them except us, are able to make a single payer system work but we don't feel we can. I just don't get it.

National healthcare does not require giving up capitalism. Look at Israel. That country is an entrepreneur factory. They crank out an amazing amount of successful start up companies. Yet they chose a national healthcare system.
