3/24/2017 Contest update
To paraphrase Mark Twain: “The report of Obamacare’s death is an exaggeration.” Meanwhile, investor jitteriness produced by Obamacare’s uncertain fate was not copacetic for biotech stocks.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.31% YTD (vs. up 19.54% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 9.50% YTD (vs. up 11.31% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 16.18% YTD (vs. up 20.07% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 8.28% YTD (vs. up 9.62% YTD a week ago).
We have a new leader! Supercharged by ESPR, ROBO’s portfolio took first place with a 56.89% YTD gain. ESPR is now the top gaining Contest portfolio stock YTD, up 211%. TOMP’s portfolio, up 45.62% YTD, fell to second place and BIOADD’s portfolio, up 45.24% YTD, dropped to third place.
At Friday's close, 43 of the 48 Contest portfolios were still in the green, with 32 beating the NBI and 15 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 13.11% and a median YTD gain of 4.94%, with 117 of the 195 picks up for the year.
