No, I've not heard of such a thing, people can always go to the emergency room at no cost at all to them, or to the hospital if need, there are hospitals that do not worry about your wallet, they operate on donations and charity gifts... and there are clinics that take people who just walk in at no cost... in fact, my own personal physician who has a dual medical specialty, e.g., family practice and sports medicine, every Wednesday afternoon he sees anyone who walks into his office for no costs at all... so, I can't imagine such a thing happen as you described... also, there are community religious groups that pay for the needed medical treatments if a person doesn't have the ability to pay... So, lots of 1/2 baked rumors fly around without a basis in reality... Our Canadian friend was an older fellow, but that you had to ask also suggests that there is in fact a cut off for age... that doesn't exist here... GZ
