And at some point, at least a head nod must be given to various valuation metrics.

Valuation effects may not be immediately felt but are nonetheless present. If I way overpay for a car, I will not notice the effect of that until I sell it. That might be 5 or 10 years down the road but when I sell I will have realized a higher total cost for that car than if I had bought it for a great price initially.

Right now, equities are at high historic valuation levels. Simple as that.
