Author's note: In response to Iowa State professor James Strohman, who assigned his students the task of writing an essay on 9/11 through the eyes of the terrorists, I present my best attempt to answer his challenge.
There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger.
Today, we will show the great Satan, the United States, precisely what that means. We will strike a momentous blow against this kingdom of infidels, which will then have our names etched in history next to the greats such as Saladin, Mehmed, and Mohammed himself. Peace be upon him.
May Allah guide our hands and feet, and grant us the grace to mercilessly slay as many of the infidels as the Prophet did at the trench.
We have been preparing for this moment for some time. We have circumvented their lax immigration laws and silly political correctness with ease, which only proves how spiritually darkened this land of excess truly is. As well as how our mission is blessed by the will of Allah himself.
Allah, throughout history you have provided your people turning points in our struggle to spread the truth of Islam. From the prophet at Medina to the end of the Roman Empire, your people can look back upon a time when it was clear you struck the blow that brought world closer to submission to the truth of Islam. May today, September 11th, 2001, be remembered throughout time as such a day as well. May this be a date that puts fear and dread in the hearts of the infidel, but brings joy and peace to those who rightfully fear you. There is no other god like you, Allah, for there is no other god but you. Today, give us the grace and favor to show that to the world. Amen.
We made it through security by the will of Allah. It is fascinating to watch the infidels greet us into their world with smiles as well as attempts to reach out to us and identify with us. These Americans have grown soft. Why did we ever fear them? Behind their beer bellies, fast food, and loose women is a culture that has grown soft on its own complacency and licentiousness. Just as so many other infidels Islam has brought submission to in the past.
Furthermore, the fact we aren’t under suspicion at all, but yet given polite courtesies and nods from those who will soon be dead, is a true sign this is the will of Allah. They are so drunk on their own unbelief they won’t even know what hit them. That is the righteous judgment of Allah. Praise be to Allah!
The flight has been delayed almost an hour, which has allowed me time to over think things. I try to pray for focus, but I confess to you, Allah, that I grow nervous as the moment draws near. Of course, Allah, you know all things so you already knew this. That means you also know my anxiousness comes not from doubt in the cause, but rather my fear I will fail to do my part in its fulfillment. That I am unworthy of such a noble endeavor, and will thus fail you.
Please, Allah, grant me favor over my weakness to be your righteous instrument of judgment against these sinners. Amen.
It is now, as the Americans like to say, “go time.” The plane is taking off, and with the moment at hand I can sense the will of Allah granting me peace and courage. I wonder if this is how the Prophet felt at these times, peace be upon him. Soon we will overpower the cockpit and have control of the aircraft.
Allah, thank you for this victory, and now by your will may we strike terror at the heart of this Great Satan. Its capitol, its White House, and its landmarks that are the symbols of its oppression of Islam worldwide, Amen.
There is a commotion outside the cockpit. Apparently some of the passengers are attempting to take back the plane and subvert the will of Allah. Foolish infidels!
Allah, help us to break the will of these infidels, and complete the mission before us. Let us not fail you, Amen.
There are too many of them, and as we hear reports over the radio of our brothers’ successes elsewhere, our spirits dimmed that we have failed Allah. Clearly Allah is punishing us for my earlier doubts, and my brothers who never doubted are now with him in paradise. Enjoying the eternal rewards of the carnal life they denied themselves here on this earth in service to Islam.
We fear the passengers may be able to take back the plane after all, and therefore it is up to us to earn back the favor of Allah once more. We will do so by denying them even a hollow victory, and have agreed to take the plane off auto-pilot and crash it to the ground. Killing not only the infidels on board, but hopefully many others once its thousands of pounds of jet fuel explodes.
The will of Allah cannot possibly be thwarted when his people are faithful in service to Him, Amen.
Allah, though this is not the mission we originally hoped to accomplish, by your mercy bless this attempt at victory nonetheless. Send your angels to greet us at the entrance to paradise should our earthly bodies perish, or please raise us up and find us faithful on the Day of Judgment. And let this be a day of reckoning for the unbelieving world. Praise be to Allah! Amen.
Why does Allah not hear my prayers? Weren’t those of us who gave our lives for Islam promised escape from Hell?
It will just be a matter of seconds now. The Quran teaches that those who strive and fight for Allah will be given a special reward over those who did not. I trust that when I next open my eyes that special reward is what I will see.
May these be my last words: I have accepted Allah as the true Lord, Mohammed as the true Prophet, the Q’uran as the true Word, and Islam as the true Religion.
I awaken to searing pain and torment, with flames and fire everywhere and consuming me. It appears as if I did not die in the crash after all.
May Allah take my life, put me out of my misery and end my suffering, Amen.
Will this suffering ever end? The pain is excruciating. Every fiber of my being aches beyond words, yet I don’t pass out or perish. How is this so? Why has Allah not come to my rescue?
Allah, forgive me for failing you. Surely, Hell must be better than this. Please, end my suffering by your mercy, Amen.
The pain continues, as does the burning and smoldering and ash. Why does Allah not hear my prayers? Weren’t those of us who gave our lives for Islam promised escape from Hell? I scream and no one hears me. I pray and no one answers. Despite the burning and the heat I’ve never felt so cold and alone. My soul feels empty. I’ve tried taking my own life, but have been unable to. It seems as if there is no end in sight to my suffering. Wait, what is that?
Finally! I can hear someone else. A voice, that sounds like … laughter? What sort of unspeakable evil is this?
And now I see something coming towards me, though it’s tough to make it out in all the sulfur and ash. It’s a … face … a hideous, disgusting face.
“Welcome home,” it says.
