You do realize the scientific method dates to the 13th Century, right? That, after all, is what we're talking about, not science per se.

I believe it was a fairly perfect analogy. There are plenty of other instances of the scientific community going off the rails to support a favorite cause, however.

The important point is in science you have to prove things with experimentation. As someone who has worked extensively with computer models, I can tell you that calling them proof is often overstating the case. Even when you get a model that works it isn't really proof it works into the future.
