4/7/2017 Contest update
Risk is on! That’s what the FDA told genetic testing companies such as 23andMe this week, allowing them to give customers personal risk estimates for diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Although some took this as a hint the FDA would also ease standards for drug approvals, it didn’t help biotech stocks.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 14.26% YTD (vs. up 17.39% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 9.63% YTD (vs. up 10.70% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 13.87% YTD (vs. up 17.29% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 9.19% YTD (vs. up 9.82% YTD a week ago).
ROBO’s portfolio, up 55.31% YTD, moved back into the Contest lead, with BIOADD’s portfolio, up 52.48% YTD, dropping to second place, while TOMP’s portfolio, up 42.49% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday's close, 42 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 34 beating the NBI and 25 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 12.79% and a median YTD gain of 4.59%, with 113 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe and relaxing weekend biotechies!
Happy Passover to all who celebrate the holiday!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
