I may be entirely off-base with this, but JF's problems sound similar to one I've had for a while. One of my banks always sends my monthly statement that ends up, once downloaded, with a file name of complete gibberish some 20 characters long.

I had no way of opening it and the bank acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. Once, out of frustration, I just renamed this file "bank.pdf" and clicked on it. It immediately opened perfectly. I still have to do this every month with that file. I blame Adobe, but I have no idea if that's justified.

..... and, all this may NOT even be close to the same problem.
