Now about the GOP moving to the left, I don't think so even if you in person sometimes could leave the impression of that. To me it looks more like the rightmost group of the party, whatever you prefer calling them, is losing their influence,

The party has fought it's conservative side for decades. Fighting Reagan, going so far as to run a liberal Republican as a third party candidate .... until he won a landslide. The party hasn't offered America anyone as conservative since.

while most of the remainder of the party pretty much remains on track with business as usual. The hard core traditional republican positions seem to be on the way out, which I believe is good for the country.

Business as usual indeed. Trump was chosen to preclude another Reagan like candidate.

Eliminating the conservative side* moves the party to the left all by itself.

*Like anti-conservative Bannon urged Trump to target the HFC for defeat. Like McConnel's Trump-funded campaign against the tea party. Like the failure of Republicans to do anything about IRS targeting of tea party groups - note Koskinen who lied his ass off to Congress is still in his job despite Republicans having both houses and the WH.
