John, One piece of the good news (for me at least) of the past week is that Xi and Trump defused the trade war.
Here is my speculation of a deal 'on the side':

Xi and Trump might have done a backroom deal.
  • Trump won't pursue trade warfare.
  • U.S. and China end summit with 100-day plan to boost trade and cooperation
  • Xi won't impede US to give the North Korean guy a scare.
  • Trump sent a carrier group to the Korean peninsula.

If the US sent that amount of firepower and China look the other way, the North Korean guy start questioning his tacit belief that China will side with him unilaterally, which I think would be a huge strategic mistake.

That speculation aside, the Chinese won't want a trade war, see January drop on US imports,
