Seems her name is sometimes spelled "Tekakwitha" as well.

Actually I did read a rather ironic account of her life (seemed ironic to me, anyway) by a Jesuit--I think it was a leaflet printed by the Cathedral in Montreal. In order to be a saint there have to be miracles. Some rather important person after the death of "Kateri" came down with a very bad cold. He happened to think of her. Not long after, he recovered. This qualified as a miracle.

But I do like your characterization of her as a freethinker. The sort of thing Bertrand Russell would say.
