The following is close to the way I see it. As I said previously China definitely does not want a war in N/K . Any nuclear explosions are of great concern when they are that close because of radiation drift. I believe China is willing to help reign in the radical Kim Jon keep the peace in the region and play it as a negotiating chip on trade like Trump offered.
Xi is not a stupid leader, He has done well for China. Probably one of the few leaders in the world who has his country's interests at heart. Rather than trying to wave flags and do things which promotes his own personal popularity on the world stage. His popularity is secured by making proper and lasting decisions which do not counter China's strategic agenda in becoming a world power in trade and finance.
