Why will the DEC/Sequent news move the stock? The IA-64 (Merced) platform from Intel will not be available until 1999. At that time at least 3 major OS will run on IA-64, WindowsNT, Solaris and now DEC UNIX. With the lack of success DEC has had with DEC UNIX while Alpha is the fastest chip on the market why does a port to the IA-64 move the stock over $40? This news is a non-event. Has DEC ever made a pre-earnings announcement and given a stock warning? If so, when? I went back to 1994 and could not find a single pre-earnings announcement! If I missed an announcement please post it here. I am still considering shorting DEC and SUNW and would welcome all INFORMED comments.
