CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Cleveland man shot a robber who broke into his house Friday morning.
Eddie Henderson III, 26, shot the suspect after hearing him opening drawers in his home, Henderson said in a phone interview.
He said he was able to stop the intruder before he stole anything.
"He didn't have enough time," Henderson said.
The break-in happened about 11:40 a.m. Friday at a home in the 700 block of East 160th Street, near Holmes Avenue in the city's South Collinwood neighborhood, police said.
The robber jumped out of a bathroom window after being shot and has not been arrested, police said.
Henderson said he grabbed his pistol and went downstairs. He saw a man standing in the hallway. Henderson said he shot the man once in the shoulder.
The robber ran into Henderson's bathroom and locked the door. Henderson said he stood outside the door and fired several gunshots into the door.
Henderson said the robber yelled out: "Please don't shoot, please don't shoot. I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you."
The robber jumped out of the window and ran away, Henderson and police reports say. The bathroom was covered in blood, police reports say.
Henderson said he recognized the man from his neighborhood and believes he served him at his pizza shop before.
He said he has a concealed carry permit because he used to work at a barbershop, and the owner required barbers to get their concealed carry licenses for their protection.
"It's a cold world out there," Henderson said. |
