As a result, we have no scientific data on defensive gun uses like this one where the mere presence of a firearm, or a firearm discharged without injuries, has stopped violent crime from happening. As a result, we’re forced to do surveys, which have led to wildly divergent views on just how many times guns are used in the United States every year defensively.
The most credible dataset collected so far, the National Self-Defense Survey (NSDS), estimates approximately 760,000 defensive gun uses per year in the United States.
No scientific data? What about John Lott and Prof. Kleck? Only 760,000 defensive uses a year, what to the rest of the 2,500,000?
