It is a good question, but for many there is a moral issue at stake. I think it would be very heated but for the fact executions aren't a daily affair. And in fact, this string of planned executions in Arkansas has brought protestors to the surface.
The cost of execution is an issue, for sure, but it is almost never discussed. I live near Hot Springs National Park, AR. IN the last two months we have had two murder convictions where the killer had previously killed, served time, and been released. This, to me, is unconscionable. OTOH, a kid that went to my son's high school killed one of the other students, in a drugged out state, about 2002 I think, and is due to be released. Should a 20 y/o get life for for that? I just do nothing t know. If I were a parent of the dead boy I think I'd want that Justice.
I just don't know that human lives have ever been so cheap as they are right now. Personally, I attribute it to the War on Poverty, but I sure can't prove it... |
