No. Just helped a friend buy a $799 Aptiva. After upgrading it to 48MB RAM, this machine will run business apps imperceptibly slower than a PII 266(which costs $1,000 more). Games run very well due to the Rage II video chip it came with. CAD, something it will not be used for, is probably the only area where more horsepower would be necessary.

The bottom line is more memory and better subsystems(video and sound) buys you MUCH more performance per the dollar than a faster CPU.

I build my own PCs for under $800 and they handle everything quite well.

Always get more memory!!!

PS RE:Without cache, video memory or a video accelerator card, a sound card, etc, the current device is likely to be a pale imitation of the real thing for most applications.

This machine had all these items!
