Your under a terrible misunderstanding about the human species and society. Most people do not want to live on welfare. It is not a very nice way to live. Most people want to work. I do know a couple of people who take advantage of the welfare system, but they are very few and all of them have mental problems of one sort or another.

Most people who are poor, are poor because they simply do not know how to get out of poverty. And that is especially true of the uneducated. I don't have a single educated friend that I can think of that does not work.

Most Western democracies insure everybody, one way or the other and they manage just fine. Canada is a perfect example. 86% of the people in Canada love their health care system which insures everyone. And we are 10 times richer than Canada. We have the money, we just don't have the will.

The primary problem, is that the very uneducated, who are usually the poor, are low information voters and do not even understand that they are voting against their best self-interest. I've seen many interviews with Trump supporters, and I have not seen a single one yet where I felt the person even understood the basics of social science, or what Trump is actually about.

I do not believe people voted in Trump knowing he was a con man who would screw them over, I think they couldn't figure it out.
