yes, they do share traits. both staffs and pits are very friendly to humans. markedly more than many other breeds.

also, looking back, i see where the problem occurred. all dogs are territorial and the owners shouldn't have tried to cross that narrow walkway at the same time. they should have let one completely pass before the other entered. the likelihood of a problem escalates in that scenario.
