Trump Administration May Label MS-13 Gang a 'Terrorist Organization.' Here Is What That Could Mean

The infamous gang MS-13 originated in California sometime during the 1980s, and over the last 30 years, they've grown rapidly, with aligned groups all over North America, Mexico, Canada, and Central America.
The gang has been credited for countless murders and other crimes, being named one of the deadliest in history:

Although, for the first time, things could take a drastic turn for the gang, according to reports from Politico.
During an interview Tuesday afternoon, Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke with Fox News's Tucker Carlson and stated that he's taking a stand against the gang once and for all.
"We can devastate this gang. We’re going after them. We’re not going to allow them to take over a block, a corner of our communities and terrorize people with this violence.”

The Attorney General explained this could be done by officially getting the gang labeled as a terrorist organization:
“I believe it could qualify for that. There are rules that I guess the State Department does to establish that."
Sessions stated the U.S. will have “zero tolerance” for gang violence, explaining how the Trump administration will annihilate MS-13:
“We cannot allow this to continue. We will secure our border, expand immigration enforcement and choke off supply lines.”

Prior to Session's comments, Trump posted a tweet blaming Obama for MS-13's growth in the previous years:

That said, Trump offered up no statistical facts on the subject.
Carlson noted that in 2015 the El Salvadorian government was able to designate the gang— which is very prominent in the area— a terrorist group.
While Sessions is advocating to get the label of the gang changed in the U.S., he stated that it is out his jurisdiction to do so |
