speaking of taxes... I worked 6 months in IN last year, and have some tax questions still unresolved... I called IN Gov State to inquire about state taxes taken out of my paycheck, and should I be due a refund since I am not a resident of that state

I spoke to two different people and got two totally different answers

The first person gave me the form to fill out and said I am due back the IN state taxes since I am not a resident of that state

The next person I spoke with told me I am definitely liable for those taxes. I referenced to this second person that the previous year I worked the same type of temporary out of state gig in CA and I did get a refund of all the state taxes that was deducted from my paychecks... since I am out of state

At this point the IN tax rep I was talking to said basically "well CA is weird, you probably didn't fill out your forms correctly... and the FED govt sends so much money to CA to support them"

Wow... I said actually that's not true... CA as well as many states send much more money to the federal govt then they receive... This guy would have none of that... he declared CA was basically living off the FED govt dole... I would have loved to say more to this guy to refute his obvious idiocy but he has my SS# and who knows? He might have had some way to revoke revenge... if I pointed out how wrong he was

So, I'm going to call back next week to see what other answers I get... still don't know if I am due a refund for my out of state taxes paid... any CPAs out there have any info?
